Juniors: Match report – Round 8

Huddy Day!

It was absolutely awesome to see all of the Tigers players in their green socks for Huddy Day – raising awareness of autism and raising funds for the Ricky Stuart Foundation. If you didn’t get a chance to buy a signed jersey raffle ticket or two (see previous post), you’ll get one last chance at the canteen this Sunday. The wonderful Huddy will be around to support our players and will draw the raffle at the conclusion of the U13’s game (140pm kickoff).

Great to see our Munchkins having a ball again this weekend. We’ll see them all again with Coach Murray at the same time this Sunday.

Another sunny Sunday saw the boys take on the Valley Dragons with home ground advantage. The Dragons turned up with some rules they wished to play by that the boys hadn’t played by as yet, but all the boys adapted well which I believed they would. We kicked off and the boys went straight to task tackling the fire right out of the Dragons in our first defensive set. Our boys came ready to tackle with Lucas, Jay, Kobe with help from Jimmy, tackling hard and keeping the dragons away from our try line with some strong tackles. Pat tallied his highest run meters for the year, taking every hit up coach asked for, he had plenty of help to from Nelson and Neville, as well as Will who took out our player of the week award with a fantastic individual try and was unlucky not to come up with a couple more. Other try scorers were Nelson 3 (reminding us he’s not only a tackle machine), Lucas 2, Jay 2, Nev 1, Kobe 1. It was a great team effort which was fantastic to watch, and you all made sure we kicked a great Father’s Day off with a win, THANKS BOYS see you on Thursday. .

U6 Black

This week we welcomed another home game and the weather was a tad chilly but the sun was out which was nice. It was a very special home game this week, being the Inaugural ‘Huddy Day’. Our team loved hearing about what it was all about and then even meeting Huddy himself. That made their day!

We played the Roos White team and they ran like a well oiled machine. After a really steady start for our team, we managed to run in a handy amount of tries. Apart from a couple of our players, who always give it their 110%, we really lacked in defence this week. Not sure what happened but they just didn’t want to tackle until the last 3 minutes of the 4th quarter! Apart from that, everyone enjoyed themselves and that is what it is all about! Our player of the week award went to Vinn! Vinn really stepped up this week and tried his heart out, chasing that try line! After a couple of failed attempts, he made it over for his first ever try! What a milestone! Well done Vinn!

U8 Black

The U8 Blacks had another fantastic game. It’s so exiting to see how much they have improved over the season. They are all so courageous in their tackling. Henry won player of the match with his impressive defense. Logan showed heaps of bravery earning the encouragement award. Tries went to Henry, Will, Tommy and John. Well done team!

What an absolute privilege to be part of the Bungendore Junior Tigers Father’s Day footy extravaganza on Sunday.

On a glorious Spring Day, we all relished the opportunity to get out in the sunshine and enjoy some great footy.

And wasn’t it worth it – in an almost Carnival type atmosphere, we were treated to an enthralling game between the Tigers and Belconnen Sharks U9 Blues.

Great credit goes to both teams in an exciting, see-sawing first quarter, when after an early exchange of tries, the Tigers went into the break slightly ahead.

In an equally exciting second quarter, we witnessed some dazzling runs, great tackling and hit ups by our young Tigers and then great defence – as both sides shared the same scores.

Although tired from their first half efforts, the Tigers were undeterred at playing up hill for the third term and continued to give 100%, with their relentless tackling and playing as an impressive collective unit, they managed to extend their lead at three quarter time.

More Tigers’ tries followed for their endeavours in the final term.

By the final whistle, and despite both teams being exhausted and worn out, the Tigers managed to celebrate.

Indeed, so good was the game that the Referee commented afterwards it was ‘the best game he had ref’d all season!’ .

As the Mums and Dads know, each week it gets more and more difficult to identify the stars amongst so many talented youngsters and this week was no different with so many to choose from.

But choose we did and shining through for the Coach’s award were Dan and  Isaac – well done both of you.

Let’s all turn out again next weekend to cheer our youngsters on when the festival of footy continues at Mick Sherd Oval.

Go the Tigers!

Thanks again to all of our volunteers who came to setup and pack-up (even on Father’s Day!). Our continued thanks to our Canteen Coordinator Mel and the girls for serving up food and drinks all day at the home games, and selling our Huddy Day raffle tickets. We’ll see everyone at home this weekend.

Other teams’ reports may be added when they become available
