And that’s Round 1 done! It was an awesome day of footy, great to see everyone being CovidSafe, watching the kids have a run. Thanks to the many volunteers of the day, who came and did setup early in the morning, ran the canteen, packed up, and of course our wonderful team volunteers – Coaches, Managers, Trainers, and LeagueSafers. For Round 2, all of our teams are away (or byes), we look forward to hearing how they all go in the next match reports ahead of Round 3 being back at Mick Sherd (and hosting the Score Raiders game at 3:15pm – see here for details).
Before we head into the teams’ reports – just a reminder on the NSWRL’s policy on photography and video policy (click to open in a new window). As far as our socials and website go, we can only ever use material from NSWRL approved photographers, of which we have two in the Club (Sue and Stacey), we can apply for more if people are interested – just reach out to discuss.
Don’t forget team photo day is coming up on 20 May, you’ll receive an email directly from the photographer in the next few days with details. Also on this month is Shoosh for Kids – read more here.
We will add any missing reports as they become available.
It is always exciting to see our Munchkins program participants enjoy their first session of the season (for those not familiar, Munchkins is our skills program for ~4/5 year olds, run at home games with an emphasis on being a fun intro to footy before we see them in our U6 teams). We had almost all of our players there, excitedly being fitted up for some of the old training shirts until the new ones arrive – though some were already donning the full playing kit from their siblings or having bought one at Rego Day. Coach Trevor guided our youngest and newest players through their session, as they ran through agility poles (or at least some of them), took on a tackle bag, passed a ball – and in many cases, had a good chat, including some impressive efforts spelling their own names. We look forward to seeing the families back at the next home games in Round 3, times will be confirmed via email in the week prior.
Munchkins remains open for new registrations if there’s other interested families.

Welcome to the new footy season and what a way to start on a stunning autumns day in Bungendore. Firstly thanks to all the boys who have come back for another run and a big welcome to the boys having their first games with us in Nathan and Bailey and to their families as well. Round 1 saw the boys take on the Valley Dragons and right from the opening kick off the boys were ready to go with Lucas scoring his first try of the season from the kick off, with more tries to follow from Will, Kobe 3, Nelson 2 and Nath scoring in his first game. The tries came off the back of good strong runs from Jay, Bailey and Patty. What was most pleasing to watch was the more concentrated effort in defence from the boys with the tackle count evenly spread through out the team and everyone getting in and helping. Tackle of the game was a beauty from Jimmy with an outstanding individual tackle on a much bigger opponent. Player points went to Lucas, Jimmy and Nelson, with Nelson also collecting our new Tackler of the Week trophy. Thanks for a great game boys and I’ll see you all at training on Thursday.
-Trevor W. (U7 Orange Coach)
What a fantastic start to the season! The game was high energy, both teams were competitive in offensive play and the U7’s Tigers defense was outstanding. Keep up the great work team. Go Tigers!

Under 9s Black played against the Gunghalin Bulls.
What a cracking start to the season all the training on defence is really starting to pay off. Jake made his footy debut and made it look like he had been playing for years. On a day where tries were flowing Owen got 4, Logan and Will 2, Declan 1, The sideline erupted as Jackson stormed through the opposition to score his try. Big shout out to Deejay who put in some huge runs. Coaches player of the game went to Owen.
-Naomi H. (U9 Black Manager)
U9 orange had a fantastic start to the season. The kids were all excited to be back on the field. We also welcomed a few new players to footy which was wonderful to see and they all did so well. We can’t wait to watch their progress through the season.
The kids played with enthusiasm and great team work sharing the ball around and listening to coach Chem’s fantastic advice. They were rewarded well by winning their first game. Three tries to Clay who is new to the club and a great addition. Two tries to Tommy. Both converted their own tries along with Louis who helped score another conversion.
Player of the week went to Clay and coaches award went to Aidan who played with all his heart.

U10s Junior Tigers Spirit shines through in enthralling draw against Belconnen Gold
We certainly knew it would be tough playing in a higher league this season and our young Tigers certainly rose to the challenge, continuing where they left off at the Goulbourn Carnival by showing tremendous spirit in gaining a well-earned draw against Belconnen Gold, at Mick Sherd Oval last Sunday.
Amidst glorious sunshine, and with huge support from families and friends, the U10s ran out with great enthusiasm for their first home game. Not long into the first half, we soon found that we were up against talented opposition with Belconnen Gold finding their way through to score early. Undeterred the Tigers, ran and tackled hard to stay in the contest. A second try by Belconnen didn’t dampen the Tigers’ spirit and, as we started to gel as a team, we were able to run in a try and score the conversion. Although this was again matched by Belconnen, our youngsters continued to do their best which meant we went in at halftime only 14-6 down.
Certainly our Tigers were by no means ‘down and out’. Yes we are still getting used to playing with each other with a number of new faces this year but, whatever we lacked in skills, our U10s more than made up for with their grit and determination. In a high scoring second half the Tigers were quick ‘out-of-the blocks’ putting points on the board. Each time we crossed the try line our array of kickers stepped up to the mark with conversions, which in the end made all the difference. In total seven tries and six conversions in the second half culminated in a 30 points all draw – how entertaining was that!
Lachlan W ran in four tries with conversions by Dan, Logan, Lachlan W, Max & Rhys.
The enjoyment shown by all the players was great to see and with the help of Coach Jerry at training, and on game day, our youngsters will continue to go from strength to strength. With such a brilliant team effort it is always difficult to single out individuals however for an impressive all round effort Lachlan W – and for immense tackling – Austin – are deservedly this week’s award winners.
Although the weather is getting cooler and damper, having your support on the touchline is invaluable please continue to turn out to cheer our players on.
Go you Tigers!!!!

Welcome back to the footy season and welcome to those new to the sport and team.
U12s had a cracking great first game against the QBN Roos. The first half was dominated by the opposition seeing them score 14 points. Our boys grew more confident as the game progressed, making more hard hitting tackles and working as a team.
After a few words from Tim and some pointers we went out in the second half ready to redeem ourselves. And boy did we. Second half possession was in our side of the field and we held them out from adding any further points.
Jack scored our first try and Aden added a precise kick to convert the try. Final score being 14-6. Stella effort by all.
-Krystle H. (U12 Manager)
It was a great start to the season for the girls u12 Lt. All the girls had fun. Congratulations to Lani & Brooklyn for scoring a try each. Unfortunately we went down to West Belconnen Gold 26-8. Thanks to all our amazing parents and volunteers.

On Sunday the 2nd of May, the Bungendore Tigers U/14s played against Goulburn Stockmen. Before the match took place, we paused for one minute to pay our respects to Alex Rodham who tragically lost his life earlier this year after battling cancer.
We were joined by Cooper M. who said some inspirational words before the match. It was great to see him supporting his team as he cannot play with the Tigers at this time due to health reasons.
Harper was a force of nature and performed some outstanding runs against Goulburn. He scored a try and was one of the two players awarded ‘Player of the Week.’
Reggie was the second player of the week. He was consistently amongst the action and displayed unrivalled enthusiasm during the match.
Unfortunately, we weren’t the winners on the day, but our team played with vigour and persistence. We are looking forward to training this Thursday and Sunday’s game. Rest up boys and bring your best!
-Cassie W. (U14 Manager)
