Juniors: Round 9 Match Report

Here’s the Round 9 match reports.

Today the boys travelled to Melba to take on the Sharks down on troops but riding on the back of a 3 match win streak full of confidence. We traded tries early and it looked like the boys weren’t in the mood much for tackling. But after a pep talk mid way through the second quarter realised that we had to play footy today. With Ollie and Christan leading the way we started to get up off our line in defence and Nelson filling in for the week started to lay on some of his trademark tackles, and anything that made it past the front line was cleaned up by Liam with some great individual covering tackles using the side line to his advantage very well. With Murray delivering great service at dummy half our ball runners found their feet late in the game with Aiden bumping players of everywhere just like his idol Big Papa making plenty of meters and laying the platform for our try scorers to do what they do best. Try scores today were Ollie 2 Nelson 1 Liam 1 and Jay 3 who was also our player of the week today who really troubled the sharks defence and didn’t take a backward step to their main defender on the day. Goal scorers were Liam, Nelson and Murray. Tackler of the week went to Nelson and a special thanks to him and his mum for helping us out while their team had the bye, Thank you.  Boys we were a little slow out of the blocks today but to your credit showed once again what a great footy team you all make once you got your heads in the game, and its great to watch.

With school holidays upon us I’ve decided to give the boys a break from training for 2 weeks unless you have registered for the carnival. Enjoy your break and ill see you in a couple of weeks. Thanks again.

For the second week in a row, those lucky enough to see the U11s in action, witnessed another thrilling game; this time with our nine young Tigers (without any substitutes on the sideline!) battling it out against the Queanbeyan Roos, the League leaders. We eventually went down 42-32 in a hard fought contest, played with boundless energy and enthusiasm and in great spirit.

In the first half, both teams matched each other, try for try, with Lachlan grabbing two from his darting and weaving runs and Kieran powering through to cross the line. Lachlan also added the extra points from a conversion, as did Logan which meant the scores were level 16-16 at the halftime break.

The second half was just as competitive from the first to the final whistle. Again Lachlan dominated the Tigers’ scoring with a hat trick, indeed he was very unlucky not to bag a fourth while Max and Jack both scored conversions. Unfortunately despite the tremendous all round efforts of our players, in as Coach Jerry mentioned the ‘hardest game of the season’, the Roos managed to ease away on the scoreboard, with two late tries and a conversion.

For the second week in a row we witnessed strong hit ups, crunching tackles, great passing and all round hard running, with each member of the team justifiably being recognised for their tremendous contributions and earning this week’s Coach’s award. What more can you ask for with everyone giving a 100% throughout the game. Great work everyone.

Let’s all draw breath and enjoy a well-earned school break and we look forward to seeing you at our next game, 24 Jul at North Kaleen Oval, vs North Canberra Red.

See you at the Footy – Go the Tigers!
