Juniors: Round 8 Match Report

Here’s the Round 8 match reports.

Today we played the Knights in sunny Gordon with a later than usual start which was welcomed by all who attended the solstice bonfire the night before. The Knights were a big side as we expected and our Tigers were a little hesitant at first but after two quarters found the Knights were just as easy to tackle as other sides and fell right in to our defensive strengths with great tackling from Aiden, Geordie and Jay. Off the back of this our attack benefited with great runs from everyone especially Christian, Murray and Mila. Once again it was great to see the team sticking to our new attacking pattern and the benefits showed by toppling a really good Knights team. Awards this week went to Ollie as our top tackler for the day and player of the week was Hugh for 4 outstanding tries, our other try scorer today was Liam. Goals were kicked by Christian, Geordie, Hugh and Liam. Guys it’s great to see that we are improving each week but need to be coming to training to keep that level of improvement up, I hope to see you all on Thursday. See you there

What an absolute pleasure to watch a great game of footy between two young sides, while basking in the winter’s sunshine at Kippax Oval. Well that’s the pleasure the U11s family and friends enjoyed in a see-sawing game out which eventually saw our young guns run out winners 52-34. End to end and played in a great spirit, we witnessed 15 tries and 13 conversions in a free flowing game – how impressive is that.

Max was first to score, darting and weaving his way down the left side to score in the left corner, before Lachlan fought his way through some tough West Belconnen defence with some inspiring runs, to bag a first half hat-trick of tries. Kieran rounded off a scintillating Tigers first half, with all try scorers converting their own efforts and Jack helping out too, all this happening while West Belconnen remained in close touch on the scoreboard with their own four tries and three conversions

We had hardly any time to catch our breath on the touchline, let alone the players, when the Tigers continued to roar and score with all three of our first half try scorers doing the same in a frenetic second half, which also saw Zack crossing the try-line. The all-round team effort also saw Logan, Tom, Kieran and Jack bag conversions too!

What was all the more inspiring was that we achieved such a good win with only ten players on the field, with West Belconnen sportingly matching the numbers on ground, such that we had an even contest throughout

Who needs Origin when we can generate our sparkling game too without travelling to Perth!

Amidst such a fantastic team effort, with strong hit ups, crunching tackles, great passing and all round hard running, it was always going to be difficult to pick out a stand-out player but Zack stood out as our ‘first among equals’ and justifiably gets this week’s Coach’s award for his tremendous contribution throughout the game.

Another impressive performance with everyone giving a 100% throughout.

Please join us next weekend to see another fantastic game – Go the Tigers!
