Juniors: Round 6 Match Report

Here’s the Round 6 match reports.

Well what a game our little Tigers put in on Sunday morning, down to 6 players and in freezing temperatures we played the Tuggeranong Buffaloes and what a display of Rugby League we put on. In a sign of good sportsmanship the Buffaloes loaned us a player so we could play at even strength. The Buffaloes kicked off and we hit the ground running with Liam scoring in our first set of six, Ollie converted and then the team showed us what they are capable of in defence. Working as a team and getting up off our line with great intent, enthusiasm and plenty of noise we forced the Buffaloes into making errors with the ball, we used the sideline to our advantage and even managed to tackle them back into their own in goal forcing a drop out for the third time this season.

The defensive effort this week was outstanding to watch and the way you all have listened and put into place the lessons learnt at training showed in the Buffaloes only scoring 3 tries for the game. Well done team keep it up. In attack we moved the ball well and ran in some great team and individual tries. Mila played her best game so far getting involved in some great tackles and delivering great service from dummy half. Geordie and Ollie were both outstanding in attack carrying the ball for plenty of meters and were always making an impact in defence. Liam found his running game crossing for two great individual tries and kept his shoulders busy in defence. Jay and Hugh seemed to be trying to out play each other this week going tit-for-tat, in both tries scored and tackles made and both played fantastic games. Hugh finishing slightly on top collecting our player of the week award with Jay collecting our tackler of the week trophy. Guys every single one of you should be proud of how you played today in tough wintery conditions you made me one proud coach and put on a great game of footy to watch, keep up the good work.

Try scorers this week were Geordie 1, Hugh 4, Jay 4 and Liam 2. Goals were kicked by Geordie 2, Hugh 2, Jay 2, Ollie 1 and Liam 1.

Great stuff today rest up, stay warm and we will see you all on Tuesday.

How good was it to see some sunshine for a change which certainly spurred our young Tigers on to a convincing 50-12 victory against the Goulburn Stockman side, who nevertheless put up a strong fight in an enthralling game at Mick Sherd Oval.

Our three strong forwards Dan, Kieran and Rhys took the game ‘by the scruff of the neck’ with their powerful runs, breaking the line on a number of occasions to burst through and score. In the first half it was Rhys and Kieran (scoring twice) which helped us to get off to a strong start. They each converted their own tries and with Tom doing the same (scoring a great try and a conversion) and Dan slotting the extra points through, the Tigers enjoyed a healthy 24-12 lead at the half time break.

Our Tigers were just as enthusiastic in the second half with Rhys scoring the first and last tries of the half, Dan dashing through to score a great double and Max featuring as a try scorer. How fantastic that Max, Logan and Kiri then added the extra points. Our defence also held strong during the second term managing to ‘shut out’ the Stockman side

A really pleasing all-round performance with strong tackling, great passing and good communications, was justifiably rewarded with each of the player’s being recognised this week with the Coach’s award – a fantastic result ahead of the long weekend break.

Most impressive was the Tigers teamwork, giving a 100% throughout.

Please join us next weekend to see another fantastic game– Go the Tigers!
