Juniors: Round 11 Match Report

Thanks to all of the Bungendore players (and others) for rocking their their Crazy Socks in support of the Men of League Foundation (to find out more click here) with a portion of the sock purchases going to the foundation.

We were again reasonably fortunate with the weather. The forecast was grim and for rain the whole morning, but we were “pretty lucky” with a few patches of rain (particularly awesome during 7am set-up) but none of them lasted for too long. Only one more week at home this season, so make sure you get ready to buy the last of the merchandise and raffle tickets. We’re starting to plan for Presentation Day, and will let you know more in the next week or two.

We’ll add any missing reports as they become available.

It seems some of our Munckins opted to have a sleep in or assumed the rain would stop us! Not the case for some of the group, Coach Trev once again got the kids into their session, plenty of running and kicking kept the players nice and warm. Manager Dan got a bit distracted and didn’t remember to get the photo of the kids who all looked awesome in wearing their Crazy Socks in support of the Men of League Foundation. We will look forward to seeing the group back in a couple of weeks for the last Munchkins session of the season!

Round 11 was played in fine, cool but damp conditions against the Valley Dragons Green side at Mick Sherd Oval. Despite missing the Round 10 game and training due to weather we all turned up keen to play. Tackling and running were the highlights of the game with all the players contributing. Player awards went to Ashton & Seth which were well deserved. It’s great to see the kids enjoying themselves each week. Only 2 more games for us due to having the bye in the last round. See everyone at training this Thursday ready for our next game.

Well team what a display you boys put on for us today. Everyone of you played outstanding footy today from Pat taking consecutive hit ups to Nathan bagging 5 tries and Blake making 11 tackles, you played as a team and as a result managed to hold the Dragons to only 2 tries. Our extra days training and you guys listening and making the little adjustments we ask of you is showing in how we play our footy. Players of the week this week were Lucas for his determined straight running, Nelson for making another stack of tackles also claiming the tackler trophy for the second week straight and Nathan for his 5 tries and making plenty meters with every carry, well done boys. Our try scorers for the day were Lucas 3, Nelson 4, Nathan 5, Kobe 2, Bailey 1 and Jay 2. Thanks boys for an outstanding game you are a credit to yourselves and the Tigers club. Rest up and I’ll see you on Tuesday.

Junior Tigers show great spirit against the South Tuggeranong Blues

Thanks to everyone who turned out to support our young Tigers at Mick Sherd Oval last Sunday. With the warmer weather our players responded by playing their hardest against a Blues teams who had a couple of real stars. It was very pleasing to see our Tigers working as a unit and they did really well to keep the score as low as possible. Most importantly, despite a scoreless first half for the Tigers, they never gave up. Jacobi and Luke led and spurred the team on from the front with some great tackling, awesome runs and fabulous all round efforts.

Although down on the scoreboard at the start of the second half weaving and darting runs from Lachlan W led to him scoring twice, with the team working well collectively to help him cross the try line. The bonus of conversions by both Lachlan Wyeth and Dan meant that we only went down overall by four points in the second half.

Kiri continues to get better each week with her hit ups and tackling, and the efforts of Jakobi and Luke ensured led to all three players receiving a Coach’s award this week although, as is often the case, many more of the team were vying for recognition.

Next week sees us travelling away to Yass and the assistance of families and friends for this away game would be most welcome. The weather forecast this weekend seems really good – almost Spring-like – so let’s turn out in force to cheer our team on.

Go the Tigers!

-Sue & Carl W. (U10 Manager/Assistant)

We had an outstanding game on the weekend. The boys put in all they have learnt over the season so far. We were passing along our line which made a big difference in our attacking line and the ability to move further down the field. First on the score board pepped the boys up and their game plan increased. We were defending our line in an outstanding fashion. Unfortunately the QBN Roos matched us with scoring just before the end of the first half but were still up.

Second half We scored again and on the  verge of claiming the game. The opposition made a line break and ran down the side line to get there second try. Scores were a draw at the end of the game.

We dug deep with only 1 reserve and having to change out injured players.

Great game.

– Krystle H. (U12 Manager)

The U12’s girls played a good game against Yass white on Sunday, the girls defended well but Yass won 22 – 8 with Yass scoring in the last minute of the game. Ashlee scored both tries for our girls, well done girls you put in a good effort and should be proud you played a good game! Awards this week Violet & Maddie.

Last weekend, Bungendore Tigers Under 14’s versed South Tuggeranong Knights. It was a tough game with a number of injuries, but our boys didn’t give up. The final score was 56-4 in favour of the Knights.

Congratulations to Harper who scored a try against the knights. He also did a great job of being our team captain, and showed some excellent leadership skills out on the field.

Our award winners for this week were Zac and Stevie, who have played consistently for the entire season and are well deserving of this recognition. We would also like to belatedly acknowledge our award winners from the last game we played; Tremaine and Frankie. Great job boys!

We wish the boys all the best in their next game against the Valley Dragons for Round 12.

-Lisa T. (U14 Co-Manager)
