Juniors: Round 5 Match Report

Another fantastic week of home games! Thanks to everyone for coming and supporting the kids, and to our volunteers for helping run the day.

We’ll add any missing reports as they become available.

Coach Trevor once again ran our youngest players through various drills, passing the ball, scoring tries and running around the cones (although one of our players suggested that we should have got the agility poles out instead). It’s great to see so many coming week after week, including some new faces again this week. Our Munchkins will now enjoy a few weeks rest, with next home games on 20 June.

This round was played in fine conditions against the Queanbeyan United White side at Mick Sherd Oval. Despite a few missing from training we had a full turn out. Once again tries were a plenty and it looks like we need a little bit more tackling practice. There was plenty of wilful runners and in the end for those who count we came away with a close win.  Player awards went to Hunter & Josh this week which were well deserved. The kids all seem to still be enjoying themselves and in the end it’s all about having fun. Looking forward to seeing everyone at training and at our next game which is away at Curtin Oval.

On another fabulous day for footy in Bungendore the boys played the Tuggeranong Buffaloes bathed in sunshine for possibly the last time this year. This week Lucas led the boys out as captain and lead from the front with his usual strong running and picked up the Tackler of the Week trophy as well. Kobi, Nathan, Will and Pat (with his new slick hair cut) all kept up their own strong running games moving us up field with every carry. Once again however we let ourselves down by playing to close to the side line and being tackled over it and having to hand the ball over to the Buffaloes several times. Defensively the boys carried on from last week with an even spread of work across the tackle count. Onto the try scorers from this week and I want to make special mention of Blake who scored one of the most impressive individual tries this season well done mate! Others to cross the stripe this week included Lucas 2, Nelson 1 and Jay crossing for another 3, well done boys. Player of the week awards this week went to Lucas and Jay and for the first time this year Bailey collected his first votes for showing continued improvement every week in his first year. Well done to all you boys it was a wonderful game to watch, rest up and see you at training on Thursday. .

Kids has a slower start to the game this morning. However they picked up the pace in the final quarters which was pleasing to watch. They were impressed with the dragons team work and defence providing a great learning opportunity.

Indy played with all her heart earning her the encouragement award. She has been working hard in training and at home to improve her skills and it’s really showing. Aiden was awarded player of the match as he was relentless in both defence and attack.

Tries to Clay and Tommy and a great conversion by Louis.

While it was certainly chilly out at Mick Sherd Oval last Sunday, our youngsters turned up the heat in an entertaining game against the Yass Magpies.

With the two teams being similar in skill level and stature, the momentum swung throughout the game. In a see saw first half, the Tigers moved quickly up in the line and tackled low and hard. Similarly in attack the U10s ran strongly, spreading the ball wide and worked well together as a team. Their efforts were justly rewarded with tries from Rhys and Lachlan, and Lachlan also scoring a conversion. The Yass Magpies were equally up to the task and having ran in three tries themselves, were slightly ahead 16-10 at half time.

The young Tigers came out with great energy and enthusiasm in the second half, combining well as a unit, and showing great individual skill whether in the tackle or presenting the ball for an offload. Lachlan continued to dazzle the Magpies with his inspired running, twisting and turning his way through the Magpies defence, and crossing the line on three occasions. Dan, Max and Logan also played their part in converting each of the tries. Although the Magpies ran out 48-28 winners, the match was much closer than the score suggests and everyone deserves a pat on the back for their contributions.

As always it is difficult to single out individual players however Kieran had an awesome game and Logan tackled brilliantly which resulted in them both receiving the Coach’s award for their awesome efforts.

We look to all the families and friends to continue to support our U10s – don’t be put off by the cold or damp – the efforts of our young guns will warm your hearts.

Go the Tigers!

I feel like I’m repeating myself each week! Another win for this awesome group of young men. That’s 3 in a row!

The Sharks were in the lead at half time however we came back in the second half to win 30-24.

Award winners this week were Dilan T and Jack W who both played outstandingly. It’s hard choosing these awards as I feel they all deserve one week in, week out. We have a bye next round then the long weekend, so a couple of weeks rest will be good.

Our next team bonding session will be on 13th June following a training session. Round 2 at the bowling club, to kick coach Brett’s behind!
