Great to see our little Munchkins team out practicing their skills.
This week we played the Blues at Mick Sherd. We kicked off but started slowly with the Blues scoring in their first set. We re grouped and scored our own try on our first set. From there our boys seemed to forget that we need to tackle to get the ball back from the opposition. This pattern continued for most of the game with the boys more interested in getting the next run when we got the ball back than tackling the Blues to get the ball back, so we will skip past the defence and go straight to the try scorers who were, Lucas 3, Nelson 2, Kobe 2 and Jayden 2. We had joint players of the week on Sunday, with two of our youngest Tigers sharing the honours NEV and PAT, Nev for his strong ball running, and Pat for his tough goal line defence. WELL PLAYED PAT & NEV.
We are playing over the extended two weeks of the draw and play the Blues (again) on Sunday in Qbn at 9am. I’ll see you all at training on Thursday.
What a difference a week makes weatherwise in downtown Bungendore. After the glorious sunshine we were brought back down to earth – as the clouds hung overhead and the biting wind tried to take hold – thankfully hot chocolate, coffee and tea works wonders for the supporters on the sideline!
Our U9 Tigers were certainly undeterred and came out with a fire in their bellies and a real determination to handle and tackle well, and complete their sets to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Equally the young Knights were up for a contest and also showed some great skills.
Getting off to a flyer in the first quarter with a dazzling try and conversion, honours were shared in a closely fought second term which saw both sides run in tries and have them converted. After the break, and with the wind behind them, the Tigers stepped up a gear.
With a clean pair of heels both our Dummy Half and First Receiver wove their way across the try line, converted by our star kickers, and despite the Knights responding in kind with a converted try, the Tigers led comfortably at the start of the last quarter.
Continuing to do the basics well, and remembering what they have been taught in training, the Tigers completed their sets, held their ground in defence with some awesome tackling, and broke through twice more with devastating runs, and maintaining the 100% conversion rate. At the end of the game, it was great to note we had six different names on the score sheet.
Suffice as to say we were faced with the same problem we have almost every week, who starred amongst all this young talent? For their great individual efforts and team performance the Coaches award went to Bowen, Jonathan and Tobias – well done all three of you!
Let’s cheer them on this Sunday as we head up North this weekend and take on the Gungahlin U9s who we know can play well too!
Go the Tigers!
We didn’t take the win this week and went down to the Sharks 40-24. It was still a great effort from all players and we finished 3rd on the ladder so SEMI FINALS NEXT WEEK! This is a fantastic achievement from this great little team who struggled to get points on the board over the past few years. Well done to each and every one of you – we are so proud. Awards this week went to Noah and Aaron.
Other teams’ reports may be added when they become available. Photos of some games are not available due to Child Protection requirements
