Great to see the Munchkins out for their second session! Will see you all again this weekend.
On Sunday the boys played the Woden Weston Rams, who were a very well drilled and disciplined team. We kicked off and knew we were in a match straight away with the Rams scoring from the kickoff. With the ball back in our hands the boys showed they were capable of matching the opposition with everyone putting their hands up for a run with our little guys Kobe, Pat and Will getting better each week with some good darting runs, this opened the rams up for our big guys Blake, Lucas, Jay and Nelson to take advantage of some space. Our defence was improved again this week with all the boys getting involved especially Nev who was always there to finish off a tackle. Player of the week went to Lucas for his improved straight running. Keep it up Lucas. Tries this week went too Nelson 1, Kobe 1, Lucas 2 and Jay 3. Good work by all the boys let’s look forward to the Bulls next week. See you at training.
Our under 7’s took on the mighty Valley Dragons at a very wet and damp Mick Sherd oval. It was a tough contest and the Dragons always have a big, strong and fast team. This week we were down a few numbers but we still played well considering the conditions. The kids always have fun, regardless of who they play against and they are just happy to turn up, week in, week out and get into it! This week our try scoring machine and player of the match was Mitchell. Well done!
The U8 Black has a tough game against the Queanbeyan Blues. However they rose to that challenge. Great try to Johnny. Naite won player of the match for his amazing and consistent diving on the ball. A big welcome to our newest team member Noah who played so well in his first game earning him the encouragement award.
Whatever you do, don’t keep the U9s couped up because of the weather otherwise they will come out roaring. And roar they certainly did today.
In a tight first quarter, playing uphill but with the wind behind them the Tigers scored two tries to the Rams’ one with our First Receiver and Dummy Half’s wizardry and weaving runs.
In the second quarter we saw excellent team work, crunching tackles and superb supporting runs, as well as a sensational offload, with the Tigers pulling away with three tries (two conversions) to one converted try.
During the third quarter the Tigers continued to ‘make hay’ as the sun shone, running in a further three unanswered tries (with a conversion) and the game rounded off with a further converted try in the last term.
Particularly impressive was how the young Tigers played for each other, whether quickly getting in to a great ‘V’ when attacking or a defensive line alongside the referee, and with no unforced errors during the game how good was that!
Four different try scorers and three different converters a further reflection of the all round team effort.
For his fantastic tackling and inspired running Alex H justifiably won this week’s coach’s award – well done Alex!
A big shout out too for David Myers, our Assistant Coach, who continues to encourage our youngsters through training and during pre match warm up sessions, to improve their handling skills, as they become more and more of a cohesive unit.
No game this Round, but should be back next weekend!
Massive thanks to all those parent volunteers that turned up early to help setup, and for all of those who have volunteered to help on your team’s rostered week – very much appreciated.
Our Canteen Coordinator Mel will be back with her crew serving delicious food this weekend.
Other teams’ reports may be added when they become available. Photos of some games are not available due to Child Protection requirements.
