Our Munchkins kids had a great time in their first session for the season! Thanks to Coach Murray for taking on Munchkins this year, they all looked like they had an awesome time helped out with our Club Coach Jason. Munchkins will continue to have their sessions at the weeks we’re playing at home.
Well it seems the boys would rather play in the rain than the fog we had this week as we had players pull out and a steady rotation at the interchange bench due to the cold and wintery conditions. The boys started off strong with Will, Jimmy and Lucas leading the way putting their hands up for plenty of runs. Nev and Pat were reliable albeit cold at dummy half. But when we didn’t have the ball we worried too much about the cold and forgot to tackle the Bears with Nelson and Kobe doing most of the hard work. However we unearthed a possible star today with Blake playing out of his skin and scoring three unforgettable tries on his way to being player of the week. WELL DONE BLAKE, keep it up mate. Let’s put this one behind us and move onto the Blues next week in QBN and hopefully the weather might be on our side. See you all on Thursday.
Round 3 saw the U/7s have our very first home game for 2020. It was a balmy Bungendore morning when the kids hit the paddock at 9am to face the mighty Roos! This week the kids have made a huge improvement across the whole outfit and are now beginning to work so well as a team. The attack was brilliant across the board and the defence in the last half was phenomenal Once again! Huge credit goes out to our little guys and coach Dan for steering the bus! It was freezing and they held strong throughout the entire game. Player of the match this week goes to Josie. Not only was her attack and defence incredible but her resilience to get back on the field after being injured was superb, so well done Jose!
Again thanks to our superstar Leaguesafe Emily for making sure our kids are safe during the game and our parents for making things happen for our little team!
Great game today from the u8 Blacks. Deejay played with her heart and soul deservedly earning player of the match. Tries to Will, Tommy and Naite. Blake kicked a cracker of a conversion. The team (and spectator parents) are loving being back in full swing this season.
Junior Tigers U9s impressive start to the season continued against Gungahlin Bulls Black in our first home game at the refurbished and much improved Mick Sherd Oval.
As the fog lifted and the sun broke through both sides exchanged tries in the first quarter, before our first receiver dived in from 5 metres out and also got the conversion so the Tigers led by 4 at the first break.
In a tightly contested second quarter, with great enthusiasm shown by each side, both teams scored and with the conversion the Bulls were within 2 points at half time.
Undeterred at playing uphill for the second half, the Tigers came ‘out of the blocks’ quickly with two tries and a conversion. Some impressive tackling and great teamwork also helped them maintain their lead ahead of the final term.
The Tigers continued to shine, while basking in the winter sun, by playing as a cohesive unit, supporting each other in attack and defence and their efforts were justifiably rewarded with two converted tries to one in the last quarter.
Three weeks into the season, and buoyed by success, the Tigers are showing some great form. Much credit has to go to Jerry for his tireless energy and encouragement as Coach, and the team are rewarding him through their great performances on the field!
Always difficult to pick a star with another fantastic all round performance but the Coach’s award this week rightly goes to Lachlan O!
A big thanks to our Committee members and parent volunteers who came to set up for our first home games of the season. Special thanks to our Canteen Coordinator again this season Mel and the girls for running the canteen for the day and serving up some tasty food and drinks.
All teams are away again for next round, but back at home for the two rounds following.
Other teams’ reports may be added when they become available. Photos of some games are not available due to Child Protection requirements.
