Here’s the Round 4 match reports.

U8-Black

Well another week and the boys draw another talented opposition in the Sth Tuggeranong Knights. After being down a few boys last week we were almost back to a full side this week, but we were boosted by the arrival of our new signing Mila. Welcome to the Tigers Mila. Before kick off we noticed that the Knights were a much larger side than we had encountered so far and the boys knew tackling today was going to need to be a team effort, and its was pleasing to see at full time that the tackle count was spread evenly across the team. When we had the footy I had asked the boys to spread out to cover some more of the field which we did very well which lead to some great long runs from this weeks captain Christian as well as Liam in his return game. Ollie continued his streak of good form taking the lead in defence and as the game wore on had the boys charging up with him resulting in many Knights errors earning us the footy back. Highlight of the game came late in the 4th quarter after plea’s from many parents and coaches to get up early on the big boys and tackle with our shoulders, Geordie, Aiden and Hugh teamed up to tackle and then drive their biggest player out over the side line to enormous cheers from the boys on the field as well as the crowd. Boys you continue to impress with your listening and then effort to improve the areas I ask of you each week, we may not be the biggest team but if we continue to move up off our defensive line making lots of noise and good contact with our shoulders not many teams will want to run in your direction. Keep it up guys its great to watch. The tackle trophy award was very tight this week with the improved defensive effort, and by only one tackle went to Jay in his return game. With everybody playing such a great game this week it was to hard to stand one player out for Player of the Week, so this week it was awarded as Welcome to the Team and went to Mila. Try scorers this week were, Hugh 2, Ollie 1 and Liam 2. Goals were kicked by Jay and Ollie. Well done to all.

I wont be able to see you for training this week but I will see you all at the game on Sunday vs The Blues at Wright Park. See you then

BUNGENDORE JUNIOR TIGERS U11s VS WODEN RAMS – 22 MAY – CURTIN OVAL

Well if you weren’t at Curtin Oval on Sunday then you really missed out on what was undoubtedly the game of the season. Bathed in glorious sunshine, on a classic Canberra autumnal day, families & friends from both sides, as well as neutrals, witnessed a real treat. In a see sawing game, we didn’t know who was going to win until the final whistle and although unfortunately the Tigers were edged out 36-40, it was an absolute ripper – thirteen tries and twelve conversions how good is that!

The first of two great halves of footy, saw our Tigers get on the scoreboard early, with a great run from Lachlan, which he duly converted. Rams were equally up to the task, putting themselves on level terms, and again it was the No2s from each side, who scored again – well done Lachlan with Dan doing a great job in adding the extra points. Most impressive was the Tigers teamwork and in a gruelling twenty minutes, their efforts never waned and great team work saw Rhys storming through and then converting his own effort. By the time we were able to draw breath, Tigers went into the half time break, slightly ahead 18-16.

Indeed we didn’t even have time to settle before the scores continued to tick over. With our players working hard together and some barnstorming runs, Max weaved his way in and out to cross the line and convert his own try, while the Rams continued to do the same at the other end. And so it continued and we were all able to witness arguably the ‘play of the season’, when Kieran passed the ball to Rhys, who ran onto the ball from about 15 metres and continued to power through the opposition lines – fantastic to watch the Tigers at their best. The resultant great try from Lachlan was justifiably converted by Kieran for his efforts.

Still the Rams came back at our Tigers – with neither side allowing the other to settle – with weaving runs, crunching tackles and plenty of energy and enthusiasm. Max added to his try tally with a darting run and Jack did a good job with the conversion. Working tirelessly our Tigers never gave up but in the end the Rams managed to win by four with a try in the dying minutes of the game.

How do you pick a best on ground I don’t know – that’s the job of the coach and manager thankfully – Rhys and Charlie can certainly be justifiably proud of their runs and tackling – well done both of you.

At the end of the day, we are all super proud of the Tigers efforts.

A big shout out also for our referee today too who, in only her fourth game, controlled the game well and was very fair and consistent.

Get in early if you want to see another fantastic game next Sunday – Go the Tigers!
